Utah isn’t your typical college football school. While they don’t have an NFL franchise, they have a very strong athletic program. The team is ranked 18th in the country, and has only lost one game in their entire history. They are also home to a player who is a committed Mormon, Zach Wilson. The six-foot, 205-pound running back was born in Tonga, but his parents moved to Salt Lake City to attend school there.
Brigham Young University was founded in Provo, Utah, in 1875. It’s named for the Mormon Church’s founder. As the most popular Latter-Day Saints university in the United States, BYU is no stranger to sports. While the school has many LDS players, it’s not a coincidence that BYU sports teams are also very good. While there are some challenges in scheduling the games around the no-Sunday rule, BYU has proven that they are more than willing to work with schedules that may not always fit with their religious beliefs.

What college football teams are from a Mormon? It’s a curious fact to consider, but Utah is home to several Latter-day Saint players. Their first football team was led by the handsome David O. McKay, who later became the Church’s ninth president. Despite the religious connection, the football team has a rich history and is scheduled to play in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day 2021.
